LES MIS BOOK 2: CH 1

 Jean Valjean is a man who was in prison for 19 years. He had been traveling and arrived to the town and knocked around in hopes of getting some food or shelter but was denied at every home once his identity was revealed. He was kicked out, threatened, and he had rocks thrown at him. He had no place to go so he was sleeping on a stone bench until a lady asked him why he was just on a stone bench and he replied with lying about him being a prisoner since everyone who realized he was one looked the other way. The lady did not have much to give him and she asked if he had knocked and asked everywhere and he said yes then the lady points out the bishops home he had not knocked at.
